As a Corvette Owner, we are all passionate about our car and each of us utilize our vehicle in many ways. Some show their vehicle, some rallye, some race and some use it socially for drive and dines, but the one thing we all have in common is that we all love to drive our cars, socialize with our friends and travel whenever and wherever possible. That being said, none of us want to have to take time away from those events and functions that provide us with the relaxation and fun that we have become so accustomed to as NCCC members. It is with this in mind that we are happy to offer to NCCC members, an Identity Theft Plan and a Life Events Legal Plan both designed to minimize any disruption that you and your spouse might have, should your personal information be compromised or your family experience a legal event, no matter how large or small.
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), who monitors Identity Theft, has found that it can take anywhere from 40 hours to 600 hours for an individual to repair their identity to the pre-breach level. None of us have that kind of time to spend on that and it has also been shown that you will need some legal advise and help during that restoration period.
Identity Theft
The number of Americans reporting Identity Fraud in 2008 increased 29% over 2007, even though we as consumers hear about it every day in the papers, on the radio and on TV. One of the issues is that this is a silent crime and one which comes with little penalty. In the news today the individual who stole Lance Armstrong's bike got 3 years in prison but the individual that takes your identity most likely will receive no punishment or will not even be pursued by the police.
There are many Identity Theft programs available today with the majority of them concentrating on Credit Fraud and with limited assistance. These are available through your bank, credit union and homeowners company but do not protect you from the other types of Identity Theft which represent over 70% of all Identity Theft.
If someone uses your personal or medical information and has a procedure done which results in a charge or a change to your medical record, a credit check will not show you this activity. Your first notification could be from a bill collector if they fail to pay the bill or perhaps you will notice something wrong on your medical file, if you actually review it.
Some of the other areas of Identity Theft are Social Security, Drivers License, Criminal and Synthetic. CBS news found a women in Chicago that had 81 people in 17 states using her social security number. All were on 1099's and it was only discovered when the IRS notified her of over $15,000 in back taxes due.
What if you were stopped for a tail light being out, only to find that there were wants and warrants outstanding for your arrest for something you had not done.
All of these issues take time to resolve and are costly. We provide you with a licensed investigator from the #1 risk management company in the world, who will work on your behalf to restore your identity to post breach status. In the majority of cases you will require the legal advice and counsel of an attorney.
No one can prevent identity theft but we can help you minimize and mitigate the effects should your identity be stolen.
